The story goes that we were some of the first to bring swede - that's rutabaga to you - to Britain, and made quite a bit of money out of it. How much of that is true, and where all this supposed money went, is another matter entirely.

I'm either half-Australian or half-Irish on my mum's side, depending on whether you go by which country she was born in or which country her parents came from, but I've never really felt much of a cultural connection with either. My mum only had the one sister, who I've never met, and my maternal grandparents died when I was very young.
